General Information
The history of the establishment of the Department of Foreign Languages dates back to 1975. Until 1996, it functioned as a cyclical commission. In 1996, the name was changed to the Department of Foreign Languages. Then. in 2006, it was named the Department of Modern European Languages.
The first Head of the department from 1996 to 1997 was Associate Professor Lyudmyla Yatsenko, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. From 1997 to 1999, the duties of the Head of the Department were performed by the Senior Lecturer Liubov Harashchenko. During the period from 1999 to 2003, the Department was headed by Associate Professor Larisa Chaika, Candidate of Philological Sciences. From 2003 to 2006, the Head of the Department was Associate Professor Halyna Skurativska, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. From 2006 to 2021, the Department of Modern European Languages was headed by Professor Lyudmyla Onuchak, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences.
In December 2021, after the reestablishment of the State Tax University, the Department of Modern European Languages was merged with the Department of Journalism, Ukrainian Literature and Culture and named as the Department of Linguistic Training and Social Communications. The Head of the Department at that time was Professor Tetiana Hyryna, Doctor of Social Communications. Finally, in December 2023, after the reorganization of the University, the Department of Foreign Languages has received its current name and since that time, have been led by Associate Professor Olena Diachuk, Candidate of Philological Sciences.

The Department consists of 14 academic and teaching staff, including: 6 candidates of sciences, 6 senior lecturers, and 2 lecturers. The educational background of the lecturers, their dissertation works and publications correspond to the profile of the Department and the disciplines taught.
The main function of the Department
The Department of Foreign Languages is an integral part of the Faculty of Social and Humanities Technologies, Sports, and Rehabilitation of the State Tax University of Ukraine. Its main goal is to provide linguistic training for the University students who are in need for a comprehensive set of modern theoretical and practical skills in their particular specialization field.
The main goal of the Department's activities is to align with European standards for foreign language proficiency in the framework of the Bologna Process, which Ukraine has been strongly committed to. Ukrainian universities are expected to develop their educational process in accordance with European standards of foreign language proficiency, aiming at development of students' language communication competences at the level of independent user (B2) for Bachelor's level and proficient user (C1) for Master's level students. This will open up additional opportunities for the University to become an equal partner in the European higher education area and to establish itself as the strong and sustainable center for international education.
The Strategy of the Department is aimed at achieving this goal according to modern educational requirements and trends, focusing on enhancing the effectiveness and quality of scientific research and educational-methodical work through the application of domestic and international best practices, European language education standards, and the continued implementation of innovative teaching technologies.
Preparation of Specialists
In 2019, the Department received a license to train university students at the first (Bachelor's) level, which allows it to admit students who completed secondary education based on the acquired educational level of Bachelor's and Master's degrees (educational qualification level of Specialist) in the specialty 035 "Philology" with the educational program "Germanic Languages and Literature (including translation)".

Language Enthusiasts Clubs and Multilevel Courses:
The Department houses the "Philologists-Erudites Club" for students specializing in 035 "Philology" (specialization in "Germanic Languages and Literature, including translation"). Courses are offered for students, cadets, and teachers in English and Chinese languages, as well as English language courses for University’s applicants. Additionally, there is an "English Literature Club" for English language enthusiasts, "Die Jugend" Club for German language enthusiasts, and a poetry club called "Alter Ego." The Department joins his efforts with the International Language Center (ILC) to prepare university staff for the FCE exam at B2 level, providing Cambridge certificates. Consultations are also offered to prepare students for the PET exam (B1 level).
