General information
The history of the Department of Economic Policy of the Faculty of Taxation, Accounting and Audit dates back to 1996. It was then that the Department of Theoretical Economics and Humanities was founded at the Faculty of Accounting and Economics of the Ukrainian Institute of Finance and Economics, and Ivan Maksymenko, PhD, Associate Professor, was appointed as its head.
In 1998, the Department of Theoretical Economics and Humanities was divided into two departments: the Department of Humanities and the Department of Economic Theory, with Ivan Maksymenko appointed as the Head of the latter, who held this position until 31 August 2020.
Since 21 December 1999, the department has been operating on the basis of the Accounting and Economics Faculty of the Academy of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, later - the National University of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.
In connection with the reorganisation of the National University of the State Tax Service of Ukraine in 2015, the University of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine was established, and the Faculty of Accounting and Economics was reorganised into the Educational and Research Institute of Accounting, Analysis and Audit, which was subordinated to the Department of Economic Theory until 30 November 2021.
According to the results of the competition, in 2017, the Department of Economic Theory was recognised as the best department of the University of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine in the nomination "Organisational Work". And in 2019, the department took the honourable first place in the nomination "Best Department of the University".
Since September 2021, the department has been headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Department of Economic Theory Nataliia Matseliukh.
In accordance with the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 06 October 2021, the University of the State Fiscal Service was reorganised and the State Tax University was established. In connection with the approval of the new structure of the university, the Faculty of Taxation, Accounting and Audit was formed. The Department of Economic Theory was also reorganised into the Department of Economic Policy and, accordingly, remained subordinate to the Faculty of Taxation, Accounting and Audit.
The Department of Economic Policy is a leading economic and theoretical department that participates in the training of bachelors in all educational programmes of economic specialities, and provides introductory courses in economics.
Since September 2020, the department has been training students of the II (master's) level in the modern educational and professional programme "City and Regional Economics" (speciality 051 "Economics").
In November 2021, the educational and professional programme "City and Regional Economics" was accredited by the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance, which was issued a certificate No. 2526 dated 17.12.2021. The certificate of accreditation of the educational programme is valid until 01.07.2027.
Within the framework of this master's programme, the department has scientific and academic ties with the Opole State University, partnerships with local governments at the city, district and regional levels to provide practical training. The purpose of such cooperation is to provide quality educational services and create opportunities for students to study in Poland and participate in the European double degree programme in the future.
The Department of Economic Policy is an integral part of fundamental university education. The disciplines are taught based on the best foreign and domestic experience using author's textbooks and manuals.
The result of the department's research work is a monograph published in 2018: "State Taxation Activity in the Formation of the Information Post-Industrial Economy".
In total, the department has prepared 27 textbooks. Over the past 10 years, the department's teachers have prepared and published 8 textbooks with the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science.
In 2021, the department completed work on the research topic "State regulation of the development of the corporate subsystem of the national economy" (research period: 2017-2021).
On the way to gaining knowledge, students are accompanied by the department's highly qualified teachers, including practitioners who supervise students' research work, which results in joint scientific publications, reports of young scientists at student scientific conferences, and participation in economics competitions. Among the teachers of the department are graduates of the University who have prepared dissertations
The department has 9 research and teaching staff, including 2 Doctors of Sciences, 1 Professor, 6 Candidates of Sciences, and 5 Associate Professors.
The department creates all the necessary prerequisites to ensure a high level of theoretical and practical training of future specialists, the formation of a market-oriented economic outlook, basic competencies for the study of applied professional disciplines based on economic knowledge. All disciplines are taught using innovative distance technologies.
Teachers of the department constantly participate in scientific and scientific-practical conferences of international (Germany, Poland, Georgia, France, etc.) and national levels and improve their skills abroad in leading European countries and have publications in the scientific and metric databases Scopus and Web of Science.
