Winter holidays are perhaps the most magical time of the year. Ukrainian winter holidays are a unique combination of ancient rites, folk customs, and modern traditions. Folk holidays of the New Year and Christmas cycle are remarkably colorful, characterized by their originality, charm, extraordinary beauty, and the spirituality of the Ukrainian nation. Saint Nicholas Day, Christmas, New Year, Shchedryi Vechir (Bountiful Evening), and Epiphany bring kindness, love, renewal, harmony, and the sincerity of joyful wishes into our homes and hearts.
The book exhibition "Winter Holidays: Ukrainian Folk Traditions and Customs" tells the story of the immense role that age-old traditions, songs, and beliefs play in the history of the Ukrainian people. You can visit the exhibition at the Educational Literature Lending Department (Room 372, Building C), where literature dedicated to the winter holiday cycle and the Christmas and New Year rituals of Ukrainians is presented.

With the arrival of winter holidays, it seems as if something new begins in nature. It feels as if nature starts writing a unique winter fairy tale, doing so with such wisdom that we hardly notice how ordinary everyday things unexpectedly transform into something magical and unseen — into holidays. This year, once again, our holidays are not as joyful as usual. But at the same time, while going through difficult trials, we realize the value of everyday yet vital things; we are being tempered and united for the sake of one big common dream.
