On September 28, the Department of Foreign Languages held an engaging guest lecture entitled “The Multiplicity of Worlds and the Multiplicity of Cultures: The Philosophy of Giordano Bruno and the Importance of Language Competence.”
The lecturer was Hanna Kleshnia, PhD in Philosophy and Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Sociology and Philosophy of the State University “Kyiv Aviation Institute.”
The event brought together a large audience of students and lecturers and became a vivid example of how closely foreign languages, culture, philosophy and contemporary intercultural communication are interconnected.
Particular attention was paid to the importance of language competence in today’s multilingual and multicultural world. Learning a foreign language is not merely about mastering vocabulary and grammar. It is an opportunity to see the world through the eyes of another culture, understand a different way of thinking, learn to engage in dialogue and build mutual understanding among people from different countries and cultures.
Giordano Bruno’s ideas about the multiplicity of worlds acquired a special contemporary meaning: the more languages and cultures we discover, the more new dimensions of the world become accessible to us.
The lecture aroused genuine interest among the audience and encouraged reflection, questions and active discussion. It was informative, dynamic and truly inspiring!
We sincerely thank Hanna Kleshnia for the profound and unconventional lecture, the engaging combination of philosophy with linguistic and intercultural issues, and the lively communication with the audience!
We also thank the students and lecturers who joined the event and contributed to the discussion.
By learning foreign languages, we do not simply learn to speak — we expand our own world, discover other cultures and learn to understand one another.
