«EU Policy of Sustainable Development: Experience for Ukrainian Cities and Regions under the process of Decentralization»
Project type: Jean Monnet Modules
Department: Department of Economic Policy and Sustainable Development
Project start date: December 1, 2022
Duration of the project: 3 years
Project budget: 30,000 euros
The implementation of sustainable development policies at the level of cities and regions will allow achieving the goals of sustainable development in the EU countries and spreading the best practices to other countries at the local and regional levels. For Ukraine, cooperation with the EU is of strategic importance for the restoration of cities and regions in the conditions of the decentralization reform, especially those that suffered as a result of the military aggression of the Russian Federation.
The spread of sustainable development policies of the EU in Ukraine will allow to develop approaches, mechanisms for strategies of sustainable socio-economic development of cities and regions, to ensure their sustainable economic recovery, and in the future, sustainable economic growth. Ukraine is rapidly implementing digital technologies, thereby creating opportunities and prerequisites for the development of sustainable "smart cities", however, there is a lack of competence, knowledge and skills in conditions of uncertainty regarding successful decision-making at the local level in the "government-business-community" format. There is a request from society and communities to raise awareness of common values and EU policies in Ukraine. It is considered necessary to spread the policy of sustainable development of cities and regions among all interested parties in Ukraine, especially among young people and people involved in local self-government.
The overall goal of the module is to raise awareness of the EU sustainable development policy for the use of best practices for the development of cities and regions of Ukraine in the context of the decentralization reform, the dissemination of innovative approaches through educational and scientific activities, and the dissemination of results.
The main tasks of the project are:
- preparation and implementation of the educational course "EU sustainable development policy: experience for Ukrainian cities and regions in conditions of decentralization" in the educational process of training masters in the specialty "Economics" (educational program "Economics of the city and region"), the spread of its teaching in educational programs at the bachelor's level and master's students studying other specialties at the University;
- preparation and implementation of a summer intensive training course for civil servants of local self-government bodies;
- preparation and teaching of guest lectures in schools of the Buchan district and the Irpin Professional College of Economics and Law;
- implementation of the module through research through the development of international and intercultural dialogue for mutual understanding with partner universities of EU countries and other organizations in the research process;
- conducting scientific and communicative events for the implementation and dissemination of successful practices of sustainable development of EU cities and regions.

- the formation of students and the public with new knowledge on sustainable development in EU member states, which provides the ability to act: to form initiatives and develop strategic projects for the sustainable recovery and sustainable development of cities and regions and to carry out scientific research;
