On October 9, 2024, the Department of Foreign Languages organized a guest lecture on the topic: "Living Abroad: Expectations and Reality" for students of the specialty 035 "Philology" with Inna Fleming, the adviser of the support team for Ukrainians in Scotland, the Edinburgh City Council, candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you are asked what you know about life in the UK? Gloomy weather, English restraint and conservatism, love of tradition, tea with milk and oatmeal for breakfast. Today, during the lecture, students tried to figure out which of these stereotypes is true and how life is generally arranged in Britain, because many Ukrainians have found refuge in this country since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
During the online meeting, the lecturer gave a lecture-presentation about the country of unbreakable traditions and modern views on life. The students received a lot of interesting information about the peculiarities of life, upbringing and education of children, character traits of the British, family values, customs and traditions. Inna Fleming interested the students from the first minutes, she talked about her own experience of life in this country, about her career growth, about successes and failures on the way to it.
The positive aspect of the lecture was the discussion of the issues, students actively asked questions and received comprehensive answers.
The lecture took place in a creative and friendly atmosphere, the presented information was interesting for the students, they felt the importance and prospects of the chosen profession.
The Department of Foreign Languages expresses its sincere gratitude to Inna Fleming for an interesting and fruitful lecture, as well as thanks for our cooperation.
