STUDY VISIT TO GERMANY Jean Monnet Module “EU Customs Law” (101083978 – EUCUSTOMSSTU) Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union
As part of the implementation of the Jean Monnet Module “EU Customs Law” (Project No. 101083978 – EUCUSTOMSSTU), a study visit to Germany was organized from 23 to 27 June 2025. The purpose of the visit was to deepen students' understanding of the EU customs system and introduce them to the objectives of the comprehensive EU Customs Reform, announced by the European Commission in May 2023.
The delegation included 17 students from the State Tax University and the Alliance of Ukrainian Universities, accompanied by academic staff from STU – Dr. Iryna Petrova, Dr. Tetyana Matselyk, and Dr. Viktoriia Chaika. The visit was held upon the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Finance of Germany and the University of Applied Sciences for Finance of the Federal State of Brandenburg (Königs Wusterhausen).
Key activities conducted:
- Official visit to the Federal Ministry of Finance (Berlin):
- Meeting with representatives of Department III A (Customs Strategy and Reform Implementation);
- Participation in expert sessions and presentations on EU customs legislation, customs procedures, types of duties, and import regulations;
- Formal invitation extended to German partners to participate in the upcoming international roundtable scheduled for October 2025 (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ylnXz-m-hKxsPgOTP68TfnQVS2sNhd60_BaRTljbBTY/edit).
Visit to the Landtag of Brandenburg (Potsdam):
- Familiarization with the functioning of the regional parliament, budget adoption procedures, and political structure.
- Joint seminar at the University of Applied Sciences for Finance (Königs Wusterhausen):
- English-language academic exchange with local students and faculty;
- All participants received certificates of participation.
Additional activities:
The educational programme also included visits to historically and politically significant landmarks in Berlin and Potsdam (Brandenburg Gate, Bundestag, Berlin Wall Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, Sanssouci Palace, etc.), contributing to the cultural dimension of the project and enhancing civic awareness.
Outcomes:
- Improved knowledge of EU customs law and reform processes among Ukrainian students;
- Strengthened academic cooperation with German institutions;
- Promotion of EU values and visibility of Jean Monnet actions;
- Enhanced international experience and motivation for further engagement in EU-related studies.
This study visit fully corresponds to the objectives of the Jean Monnet Module, contributing to the promotion of excellence in teaching and understanding of the EU customs policy in Ukraine.
