September 12 – Ukrainian Cinema Day.

Ukrainian Cinema Day was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated January 12, 1996, No. 52/96, and is celebrated annually on the second Saturday of September.

Ukrainian cinema is a special page of our culture. It reflects the history of Ukraine, its traditions, the character of its people, the beauty of our native land, and the pursuit of freedom. On screen, the pages of our history come to life; the Ukrainian language resounds; and the strength of people's character, their dreams, love, struggle, and resilience unfold. Today, Ukrainian cinema continues to develop, discover new names, and gain international recognition.

Our exhibition, «Pages of Ukrainian Cinema», invites you to take a journey through the history of Ukrainian film – from its origins to the present day.

The exposition features publications on the history of Ukrainian cinema that introduce the development of cinematographic art across different historical periods, as well as books on the history of Ukrainian culture and media communications.

Special emphasis is placed on publications about prominent Ukrainian filmmakers, directors, and actors, highlighting their creative journeys and contributions to the development of national cinema. Ukrainian cinema has given the world outstanding directors and actors, including Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Sergei Parajanov, Ivan Mykolaichuk, Bohdan Stupka, Ada Rohovtseva, and many others. Their films have become an integral part of Ukraine's cultural heritage, with several works entering the treasure trove of world cinema.

It is no coincidence that alongside materials on cinema, literary works by Ivan Karpenko-Karyi, Ivan Franko, Ivan Nechuy-Levytsky, Osyp Nazaruk, and other Ukrainian authors are presented. After all, Ukrainian cinema is inextricably linked with literature: many famous films were born directly from the pages of literary works.

As we turn the pages of books and journals, we turn the pages of Ukrainian cinema history.
